Shirley Parizek, 81, Minot, ND, formerly of Berwick, ND, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at a Minot hospital.

Shirley Ann Peterson was born May 3, 1936 to Lyle and Agnes (Aamodt) Peterson in Rugby, ND. She was raised in the Berwick, ND area and attended rural country

schools. She graduated from Rugby High School in 1954.

In 1956, she married Norman Gustafson, and from this union, two children were born. The family made their home Minot, ND. The couple would later divorce in 1963. Shirley then married Donald Parizek on November 3, 1967. Together, they had one son, and Shirley gained three step-children.

Shirley worked for a short time at St Joseph’s Hospital and then began her long career as a clerk with ASCS (Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service) in Minot. She enjoyed cooking, baking, planting flowers, reading books and spending time at the lake. Her family thought her lefse was the best! She was known to volunteer for the annual Hostefest in Minot, which she loved. She was an avid Vikings fan and had hopes of watching them in the Super Bowl this year. She watched high school basketball tournaments on TV and listened to the games on the radio. She even arranged her schedule to ensure she could watch or listen.

Shirley was always known to be a kind, generous and loving person. She enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandkids. She will be missed by all of her fami-

ly and friends.

Her loving family includes: Daughter, Sherry Gustafson, Moses Lake, WA; sons, Steven (Ann) Gustafson, St. Louis, MO and Brad Parizek (Dianne Edwards), Minot; stepson, Dennis (Judy) Parizek, Ogden, UT; stepdaughters, Marilyn (Chuck) Johnson and Susan (Steve) Bovee, both of Minot; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Lavonne Crist, Anaheim, CA and Joyce (Harris) Lysne, Rugby; sister-in-law, Donna Varty, Minot; and numerous

cousins, nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Agnes; husband, Donald; grandson, Steven Bovee, Jr.; and her brothers-in-law, Richard, Archie and Jerry Parizek and Robert Crist.

Funeral: Monday, January 8, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
