August J. Bachmeier

May 31, 1932- Dec. 16, 2017

August J. Bachmeier, the son of Joseph A. and Katherine (Schmidt) Bachmeier was born in the rural Fulda, North Dakota home of his parents on May 31, 1932. He died at the age of 85 years on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

August was reared in the home his parents near Fulda and received his education in a country school near his home. Following school, he worked along side his father in farming. On October 26, 1953, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Marscida Barbara Wiest at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Selz, North Dakota. The couple made

their home, farmed and started their family in rural Fulda. They farmed until 1970 and moved to Arizona, only to return to Rugby in 1971 for a while.

In Rugby he was self-employed and did carpentry work. The couple later moved to Karlsruhe after purchasing the Pivot Bar there. After selling the business, the couple moved to Minot where August took a position with the USPS, staying with them until retirement. Before and after retirement the couple managed the Chateau

Apartment complex in Minot.

He was a member of the Catholic Churches in the communities where they made their home and was a Lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Marscida died October 30, 2015. August was a wonderful caregiver to Marscida throughout her illness; strong, loyal and true. He loved his family and had a keen sense of humor. Although August did many jobs over the years, in his heart of heart, he was a farmer.

Survivors include his sons, Richard (Debbie) of Puyallup, WA and Larry (Lyn) of Colorado Springs, CO; daughters, Karen (Duston) Stevens and Shirley (Leroy) Thomas,

all of Minot; JoAnn Fries of The Colony, TX, Lori (Gerard) Thomas of Becker, MN and Carla (Mark) Hubbard of Fargo; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one

brother, Maurus (Bernice) Bachmeier of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Theresa (Frank) Brossart of Rugby; brothers-in-law, Emanuel Grad and Stanley Casavant; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; their son, David at 17 (April 19, 1982); a brother, George Bachmeier; sisters, Katherine Bohl, Phyllis Sattler, Elizabeth Schmaltz, Magdalena Bachmeier, Marian Hauck, Rose Casavant, Margaret Brossart and Dorothy Grad; and his parents.
