Mark Edward Axtman, 56, Billings, Montana, formerly of Rugby died June 2, 2017 at the Billings Clinic Hospital in Billings.
Mark was born on April 16, 1961 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was raised in Balta and Rugby by his parents, Edward and Alice Axtman. He attended Rugby High
School. He served in the North Dakota Army National Guard in Company C – 146th Engineer Combat Battalion for 6 years. Mark worked for Hartley’s School Buses as a bus driver and a body repairman. He also drove charter buses to Alaska and other locations in the region. He opened his own business, called Body Works Plus, in the mid 1980’s. He was once married and from that union three children were born, Chelsea, Markelle, and Jacey. Mr. Axtman moved to Montana in 1990 and worked briefly
as an insurance claims adjuster and then resumed his auto body career. Most recently he was raising his daughter, Allexis.
Mark enjoyed restoring classic cars. He will be remembered for his mischievous pranks he played on friends and family.
He is survived by his children, Chelsea and her husband David Payne – Bismarck; Markelle Axtman Fargo; Jacey Axtman Laurel, Montana; and Allexis Axtman
Billings and one granddaughter – Ivy Payne. He also leaves a brother, Rick Axtman Deerfield, Wisconsin and a sister, Peggy and her husband Kirby Harmel – Rugby.
His parents, Edward and Alice Axtman and special friends, Mike and Donna Penfold also mourn his death. He also leaves numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a niece, Sierra Harmel and his maternal and paternal grandparents, and Lynn Larson.
Memorial services will be held at the Niewoehner Funeral Home in Rugby on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. Friends and family may pay their respects from 12 noon until the time of the service. Rev. Michael Schommer will officiate at the service.
He will be buried in the Little Flower Catholic Cemetery in Rugby. Military honors will be provided by Clarence Larson Post # 23 American Legion and the North Dakota Military Honors Detail.
