He graduated from Bisbee High School. He then attended NDSSC in Wahpeton, ND from 1948-1950. He enlisted for the Korean War on August 8, 1950 where he served for 10 years as an aviation mechanic before being honorably discharged.
Gerald returned to Bisbee where over the next years he operated a construction business, sub-carried mail, and owned and operated a pool hall. During these years he also enjoyed flying his own airplane, an Aerocona 7AC.
He became a Game Warden in February of 1968 in Linton, ND. He married Barbara Olheiser on October 26, 1968 and together they raised four children Francis John, Sheila Marie, Patricia Ann and Allan Gerald. He transferred to Bottineau, ND in May of 1969 and worked as a Game Warden until 1995 when he retired. During his career he helped develop the RAP program with the Game and Fish, taught Hunter Safety and received many service awards including Law Enforcement Case of the Year in 1992. Throughout the years he was also active in many various wildlife clubs.
During his life he enjoyed many things. Hunting, fishing, walking with his dog Lady, reading and gardening. He also liked to tinker and build things. He could repurpose just about anything. He built a cabin on Long Lake where he lived part time. He spent a lot of time with his family and friends throughout the years making many memories here.
His greatest pride was his children and grandchildren. Once retired, he was very active in his grand children’s lives. He would attend ball games, school programs, and of course take them hunting and fishing. You could also find him playing board games or dice with them on many a Sunday after-noon.
