Vernon Eugene Tuff, the son of Eugene “Bud” and Ellen (Greene) Tuff was born on March 14, 1943 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby, North Dakota. He died suddenly on Sunday, March 26, 2017 in his home in rural Barton, North Dakota.
Vernon was raised in the home of his parents and was the youngest of two children. He graduated from Rugby High School in 1961. On September 10, 1961, he was
united in marriage to Dianne Sharon Olson in Barton. Vernon enlisted in the Navy on October 24, 1961 and was stationed in San Diego, CA and served in Japan. He was honorably discharged on February 21, 1966. After he returned, he worked for Harper Oil and Rugby Creamery until purchasing the family farm and took on farming. When retiring from farming, he went on to work at Noodles by Leonardo in Cando and after that retirement, he worked at the Pioneer Village and Museum. He enjoyed fishing, camping, spending time with family and friends, bird watching, tending to his yard, hunting and spending time with his beloved four legged grandchildren.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Dianne; children, Sandra (Jim) Sattler of Rugby, Pamela Larkins of Mandan and Christo-pher Tuff of rural Barton; grandchildren, Shannon (Jaime) Burgueno, Shane (Heather) Engeland, Christina Engeland (John Follman), Jennifer (Jacob) Schmitt, all of Towner, Andrew Tuff of Detroit Lakes, MN, Michelle Klimpel of Mayville, MI, Eric Ness of Devils Lake, Ryan Ness of Bottineau and Kallie Metz of Mandan; 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Connie (Gene) Wurgler of Rugby; special friends, Larry and Bev Schilousky; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father & mother-in-law.
Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 31st at the Emmanuel United Church in Rugby. Pastor Don Andrews, officiating.
