Jerome Hoffart, born in Rugby, ND, was the oldest of eight children born to Joseph and Elizabeth Hoffart. Jerome passed away at home in Portland, Oregon at the age of 81. He graduated from Rugby High School in 1953 and Wahpeton ND State School of Science. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Korea specializing in armor track vehicle maintenance. He was honorably discharged in 1962. In his young adult life he worked alongside his father, Joseph Hoffart, as a carpenter constructing
many homes and commercial buildings in Rugby, ND. After moving to Portland in 1967 he continued to work in the construction trade as a self-employed master carpenter building and remodeling several rental homes and a beach house at Lincoln City.
Jerome was a talented artisan, a perfectionist, crafting many unique wooden items. He was loving and helpful to his siblings, nieces, nephews and friends. Little children held a special place in his heart.
Jerome is survived by his longtime companion, Carol Kirklin, Portland, OR; sisters Linda Rea, Hastings, NE; Joanne Hoffart, Portland, OR; Carole Romfo, Yakima, WA; brothers Herbert and Patrick, Portland, OR; Larry, Santa Clara, CA; sister-in-law, Joyce Meier, Rugby, 8 nieces, 8 nephews, 7 great nieces and nephews and 4 great-great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Hoffart, mother, Elizabeth Hoffart and brother, Robert Hoffart.
Funeral was held on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Portland Oregon. Donations to St. Vincent Mission, PO Box 232, David, KY 41616. stvincentmission.org or St. Vincent DePaul Society in care of Sacred Heart Church, 3910 SE 11th Ave, Portland 97202.
