Sandra June Blessum

Sandra June Blessum, age 73 passed away unexpectedly at her home on Dec. 10, 2016. Sandra was born on June 10th, 1943 in Rugby, ND. She was the 5th of 7 children born to Clara (Sand) and Arthur Jelsing. She grew up in Rugby and graduated from Rugby High School in 1961. After relocating to Denver, CO, she met and married Herry Matlock. Sandra and Jerry were blessed with 4 children: Sonia Dossey (Brownfield, TX), Steven Matlock (Rugby, ND), Stacey Matlock (Lubbock, TX), and Shelley Anderson (Rugby, ND). After her first marriage was disolved, she met and was married to Dennis Blessum in Rugby, ND.
Sandra had many interests, some of which include cooking and baking, interior decorating, and poetry. She spent several years self-employed as a licensed day care provider and partnered in a small baking business. She was also a huge fan of Elvis. She formed and was President of the Elvis Presley Heartland Fan Club of
North Dakota, the first Elvis fan club registered in North Dakota.
Eventually, Sandra relocated to Brownfield, TX where she spent the final 15 years of her life. While residing in Brownfield she was employed by United
Supermarket, Brownfield Regional Medical Center, and Savannah Apartments. She was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Brownfield.
Sandra is survived by her brother, Dwight (Mary) Jelsing of Rugby; and 3 sisters which include Jabonne Harward of Saratoga, CA Merril (Floyd) Burow of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Peggy (Gary) Oksendahl of Rugby, ND. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Roger Jelsing, and sister Gayle Jelsing.
A memorial service was held for her on Thursday, December 15th, 2016 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Brownfield, TX.
