Arlene (Westrum) Allan

Arlene (Westrum) Allan, the daughter of M.C. and Anna (Sanderson) Westrum was born on October 24, 1924 in Maddock, North Dakota. She died at the age of 91 years

on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Arlene was raised in the home of her parents and spent all of her school years in Albert Township, Benson County North Dakota. She was baptized on November 2, 1925 and confirmed on October 15, 1939, both at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. On October 27, 1943, she was united in marriage to Floyd Allan of York in Esmond, North Dakota. The couple made their home in Twin Lake Township where they spent most of their married life farming and raising a family. Arlene served on many committees, held offices in Homemakers, Sunday School and A.L.C.W. She was also on the Twin Lake school board for 10 years. In her later years, she did volunteer work and enjoyed baking, gardening, craft work and crocheting.

Pleasurable times were spent with her grandchildren as they lived quite close and later she was blessed with her great grandchildren. Arlene and Floyd moved and made their home in Rugby in 1995. Floyd died April 15, 2003.

Arlene is survived by her daughter, Sharon Wood of Maddock; her son, David and his wife, Marilyn of Maddock; five grandchildren, Melody Ann (Doug) Sowders of

Bloomfield, Indiana, Shelley (Tracy) Aabrekke of Minnewaukan, John Allan Wood of Maddock, Becky (Chad) Arthur of Otesteo, Minnesota, Steve Allan of Surrey; nine great-grandchildren, Matthew, Shawn and Talissa Aabrekke, Elizabeth Sowders, Alexus, Taylar and Allyson Arthur, Lindsey and Asland Allan; a sister, Delores Norell of Spokane, Washington; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son-in-law, John Wood; a sister, Agnes Friestad; and her parents.

Memorial services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2016 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Rugby with burial in the St. Petri Cemetery, rural York. Rev. Mike Pretzer, officiating.
