Jon Holmly, age 56, of Mylo, ND passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at his home.
Jon Alfred Holmly was born on September 29, 1959 in Rolette, ND, the son of Lester and Aleda Holmly. Jon grew up on the family farm in rural Mylo, ND with his brother, Timm, and his younger sister, Julie. He graduated from Rolette High School in 1977, where he was a member of the basketball team and FFA. He attended college at NDSU Bottineau and graduated with an agricultural degree. After college, he continued farming with his father, and eventually took over the family farm, where he lived until his death. He was President of the Mylo Fire Department and Treasurer of the Rolette Country Club. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, softball, motorcycling, 4-wheeling, and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed taking trips in the winter. Jon followed his nephews’
basketball teams closely and frequently traveled to MN to attend their games.
Jon is survived by his sister, Julie (Jeff) Willert and nephews, Dustin and Matthew of Hanover, MN; brother, Timm (Steven Filler) Holmly of Minneapolis, MN; and many good friends and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Casket Bearers are Steve Lewis, Jim Kraft, Curt Anfinson, Curt Walsh, Steve Walsh, and Jerry Anderson.
Honorary Bearers are Dustin Willert, Matthew Willert, Jeff Willert, and all family and friends. Music by LaVonne Ivey and Dianne Montonye.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 1:30 PM at Valle Lutheran Church, Rolette, ND, Reverend Thomas Stenzel officiating. Burial will be in the Mylo Cemetery, Mylo, ND.
