Betty Thompson, 92, of Rugby, ND formerly of Esmond, ND passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, ND. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at

the Trinity Lutheran Church in Esmond, ND from 5:00PM to 7:00PM followed by a Prayer Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the church. The Funeral Service, officiated by Pastor Harold Ovre, will be at 11:00AM Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Esmond, ND. Burial will take place at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Esmond, ND.

Betty Mae Berry Thompson was born March 14, 1924 at Fairfield-Hyde County, North Carolina to Jimmie and Katie Berry. She graduated from Fairfield School in 1941 before attending the Norfolk Business College. She worked for two and a half years at the Naval Operating Base in Norfolk, VA where she met and married Ivan Thompson on December

22, 1944 at the Naval Chapel. Betty then transferred to jobs in Staten Island, NY and Charleston, SC to be with her husband until his discharge in December 1945.

Betty moved from Fairfield, NC to Fillmore, ND in February 1946 to a farm in Impark Township. At that time, she belonged to the Fillmore Lutheran Church and served as the Ladies Aid President and also taught Sunday school. In October 1960, the family moved to Esmond, ND. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, WELCA and taught Sunday school. Betty was past member of the Esmond Golden Age and a life member of the Benson County VFW Auxiliary Post #4251 of Esmond where she served in different offices. She was also active in the 6th District and State Auxiliary.

Betty was a grandma to many children in the community as she did babysitting. Baking buns and peanut butter cookies were her specialty. Sewing and gardening were also on her list of things to do along with reading. There was a time when she bowled also.

Betty is survived by her children, Sylvia (Dennis) Leier, James (Dottie) Thompson, Gloria (Lenis) Knutson, Curtis (Joan) Thompson, Byron (Sandy) Thompson; grandchildren, Stacy (Brian) Luehr-

ing, Sonya (Reid) Skinner, Shanda (Corey) Leintz, Mike (Melissa) Thompson, Jason (Tiffany) Thompson, Ryan (Rachel) Thompson, Kevin Knutson, Karla (Calvin) Wood, Kari (Chris) Wyman, Jessica (Aaron) Enno, Melinda (Jon) Rassmusen, Kristi (Jason) Gibbs, Kelly (Jared) Woolhiser; great grandchildren, Brent (Emilee) Luehring, Tyler Luehring, Garrett and Brenna Skinner, Jeremy

and Thomas Leintz, Adam and Vivian Thompson, Cullen and Avery Thompson, Kirsten and Carson Wyman, Odessa and Delaney Wood, Alan and Aubrey Enno, Brenden and Renae Dokken, Sarah

Rassmusen, Jake, Abbi and Ana Gibbs, Veronica and Paige Woolhiser; great-great grandson, Beckhem Luehring; sister, Kathleen Gay; brothers, Wayne and Henry Berry; sister/brother-in-law, Jack and Shirley Thompson, Curt and Grace Johnson, Peggy Thompson and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan; her parents; sisters, Thelma (Don) Alexander and Ethel (Fred) Hill; brother, JB (Pauline) Berry; in-laws, Merlyn Thompson, Harold and Ruth Kaemerle, Loren Thompson, Roy and Gladys Geidd and Bernice Wendschlag.
