Marlo Hill

Funeral Services for Marlo Hill, age 75 of Willow City, were held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. in Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette, ND. Burial was in the Willow Creek Cemetery of Overly. Officiating at the service was the Reverend Don Barsness. Congregation sang selected hymns and LaVonne Ivey was the organist. Bob Gilje was the soloist. Casket bearers were Mark Myhre, Jay Myhre, Duane Larson, Glen Foss, Gary Foss and Richard Arstein.

Marlo was born March 19, 1941 to Hans and Jennie (Marsaa) Hill in Minot, ND, and was raised on the family farm in South Valley Township near Overly, ND. He attended school in Dunseith, South

Valley rural school, Overly Elementary, and graduated Willow City High school in 1959. He attended the Bottineau School of Forestry for two years and graduated from Mayville Teachers College with a Bachelor’s degree in business education in 1963. Marlo married Helen Swanson June 15, 1963 at the Willow Creek Lutheran Church in Overly. They lived in Ashley, ND, for one year, where he taught business education. In 1964 they moved to Rolette, ND, where he taught business for six years at the Rolette High School. In 1970, Marlo and Helen moved to a farm near Overly in

Kohlmeier Township and began farming full-time in partnership with his father. He later farmed with his two sons Gary and Da-vid till his retirement.

Marlo served on numerous boards including: as a supervisor and Chairman for Kohlmeier Township, a director at the Rolette State Bank, the Rolette Rural Fire District, the Rolette County Crop

improvement Association, and as a director at Farm Credit Service of NW North Dakota. Marlo was confirmed in the Willow Creek Lutheran Church in Overly and was currently an active and faithful member of the Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette, where he had served in various different capacities. Marlo was an avid reader. He enjoyed working on the farm, hunting in the badlands with his friends and son David, traveling, and spending time with family. He especially enjoyed time spent with his three grandchildren.

Marlo passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen, sons Gary (Margie) Hill of Rolette, David (Kari) Hill of Overly, and three grandchildren Gavin, Jordan, and Jennie of Rolette.

Marlo was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Axel and Agnes Swanson, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Warren and Lucille Fairweather, and a nephew Wendell Fairweather.
