Milton Holm

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Rugby for Milton Earl Holm, 77, who died Friday, March 18, at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.

Burial will be in the spring at Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby.

Milton was born June 27, 1938, in Rugby, a son of John & Garnet (Greene) Holm. He was raised in Rugby, graduating from Rugby High School and serving in the National Guard. He moved to Denver and then returned to Rugby. He drove truck for several years, ran a milk route, did ornamental work and raised sheep. He was once married to Rita Hoffart. On July 22, 1989 he married Cheryl in Harvey. They made their home six miles south of Rugby.

He is survived by his wife; son, Johnathan; daughter, Denise Lopez, San Jose, Calif.; two grandchildren; sister, Marliss; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; sister, Elinor; brother, Richard; his parents.

Pastor Nathan Steen officiated. Music was provided by Dianne Montonye, pianist.

Casketbearers were John, Nathaniel and Brandon Donarski, Kevin Alexander, Derrick Mindt and Joe Volk. Honorary bearers were his nieces and nephews.

Joe Bailey

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church in Towner for Joe Clyde Bailey, 76, who died Friday, March 18 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.

Burial was in the Granville Community Cemetery.

Joe was born Nov. 1, 1939 in Granville, a son of Roy Clyde & Agnes (Hellerud) Bailey. He was raised in his parents’ home. After completing his education he worked for a number of ranchers; for Walter Otto Construction; and planted trees for the McHenry County Soil Conservation District. On July 1, 1966 he married Myrtice Livedalen. In 1967 he bought his parents’ land and ranched until 2007.

He was a member of the McHenry County Soil Conservation District board; a supervisor for Riga Township; and a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife; sisters, Annabelle McBeth, Towner; Jenell Rollman, Garrison; brothers, Jerry Bailey, Towner; in-laws, Rose Bailey, Granville; Gloria Kurtyka, Rugby; Kenneth Livedalen, Towner; Roger Livedalen, Towner; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Moen; brothers, Vernon and Jon; nephews, Larry Bailey, Keith Rollman, Ty Livedalen, Keith Hanson; parents-in-law Albert & Dorothy Livedalen; his parents.

Pastor Linda Wimmer and Wally Fretland officiated.

Casketbearers were Shane, Trevor and Trent Livedalen; Bryon and Jayson Kurtyka; Robert, Jon, Terry, Randy and Allan Bailey; Darwin Moen and Carter McBeth.

Palmer Bjoraa

Memorial services were held Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby for Palmer Howard Bjoraa, 66, who died Tuesday, March 15 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.

A private family spring burial will be held in Fillmore Lutheran Cemetery.

Palmer was born Dec. 25, 1949 in Rugby, a son of Marvin & Clementine (Freezon) Bjoraa. He was raised in his parents’ home and attended school in Rugby. On Feb. 14, 1987 he married Carol Magnuson. He worked as a truck driver and also for the city of Rugby.

He is survived by his wife; sister, Lorraine Shjerve; brothers-in-law, Kenny and Don Magnuson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dale Shjerve; niece, Lory Johnson; his parents.

Rev. Don Barsness officiated.

Bearers were Milo Johnson, Duane Shjerve, Darin Otto, Art Carlson, Frank Reis, Tony Burgess, Howard Duck and Tim Petersen. Honorary bearers were his nieces and nephews.

Mardelle Voiovich

Mardelle N. Voiovich, 92, Lakota, died March 18, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Center in Lakota.

Her cremated remains will be buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn.

Mardelle was born April 14, 1923, in Leeds, a daughter of Henry & Cora (Bye) Nelson. She graduated from Leeds High School in 1939, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Minot State Teachers College in 1948. She worked at several newspapers for several years, and taught school in North Dakota and other states for nearly 20 years. She lived in Rugby for a time, and in 2001 moved to Devils Lake.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Arliene Cilz and Shirley Olson.
