Funeral services for Alton Sletto, age 86 of Bottineau formerly Overly, were held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Willow Creek Church in Overly. Burial was in the Willow Creek Cemetery also of Overly. Officiating at the services was the Reverend Carol Wendel. Margaret Wittmayer was the organist. Tom Sletto was the pianist. The congregation sang selected hymns. Casket bearers were his grandchildren, Kevin Biberdorf, Tim Biberdorf, Cole Atkinson, Casey Atkinson, Nathan Zerface, Megan Zerface and Brian Zerface

Alton Sletto, a son of Andrew and Betsy (Johnson) Sletto and was born May 16, 1929 at Rugby. Alton is 100% Norwegian and has always been proud of it. He was reared near Overly and graduated from Overly High School in 1947 . He attended the School of Forestry in Bottineau. Alton began farming with his dad on the family farm which was located 1.25 miles south of Overly. In 1952 Alton’s dad died and he took over the farm. On June 30, 1954 Alton was married to Betty Walker in Willow City. Alton and Betty have been lifelong members of Willow Creek Lutheran Church in Overly where they have and continue to serve in various positions. Alton was a Cecil Township supervisor for over 25 years. He was one of five local men who started the Willow City Farm Supply and Wilo Seed Company. He retired in 1991 from farming. In 2008 they moved off the farm and to Bottineau and have resided there since.

Alton has been active in the Willow City Community Club, Tommy Turtle Bowling Leagues, Lake Metigoshe, and participating in political meetings and conventions. Alton has been involved in the communities of Overly, Willow City, Lake Metigoshe and Bottineau. His roots are truly entrenched in Bottineau County. Alton could not sit anywhere very long. He was always ready to go. Alton was truly a role model in supporting his community. Buy local/support your community. As the years progressed, Alton’s world got smaller but the one constant was Betty.

Alton passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016 at a Bottineau health care center.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Bottineau; 3 daughters. Arlene (Bob) Biberdorf of Fargo, ND, Susie (Van) Atkinson of Mandan, ND and JoAnn (Ralph) Hooper of Valley City, ND; 6 grandsons; 1 granddaughter, 6 great-grandchildren; 1 step grandson, 2 step granddaughters, 2 step great-grandson, and 2 step great-granddaughters sisters-in-laws, Norine Sletto and Kathy Cilz both of Grand Forks and many nieces and nephews.

Alton was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Glen.

Memorials are preferred to the Metigoshe Ministries and the Willow Creek Cemetery Fund or the donors choice.
