Graveside services will be held in the spring at Island Lake Cemetery in rural Rolette for Dorothy Jane Dodge, 89, who died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.
Dorothy was born March 9, 1926, in Bisbee, a daughter of Floyd J. & Hazel (Fox) Armstrong. She was raised in her parents’ home in Bisbee and graduated from Bisbee High School. She completed her education at Minot Teachers College, earning a “Wartime Teachers Certificiate”. She taught in a small country school near Bantry. In the summer of 1946, Dorothy moved to Bakersfield, Calif., where she worked as a nurse’s aide at Kern General Hospital. In 1952 she went to work for Western Union, starting as a teletype operator, then as cashier and bookkeeper. She transferred to Reno, Nev., to take a supervisory position, remaining there until retirement in 1984. She moved to Rugby in 1990, working for a few years as a CNA at the Heart of America Care Center. She was once married to Robert Dodge.
She is survived by a sister, Shirley Keene, San Martin, Calif.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald and Robert Armstrong; sisters, Frances Canfield, Betty White, Patsy Peterson and Vera Drader.
