Memorial services were held Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church in Towner for Billy Dean Keyes, 83, Towner, who died Sunday, Dec. 20, at home.
Bill was born April 14, 1932, in Rugby, a son of Waldo & Ethel (Flowers) Keyes. He was raised on the family farm north of Towner and graduated from Towner High School in 1950. He moved to Washington to work as a carpenter until 1952, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Fort Chaffee, Ark. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He returned to North Dakota and attended SSS for two years. On Aug. 18, 1957 he married Dorothy Marie Geloff at Tuttle. They lived in Towner, Westhope, Velva and Las Vegas before making Towner their permanent home. He farmed for many years and worked on oil rigs, as a mechanic, a truck driver for Winger Cheese, salesman for Home Club in Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Nancy, Granville; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; son-in-law, Ron Gebur, Deering; brother, Bob, Towner; sister, Kay, Rugby; in-laws, Tom Geloff, Pete Geloff and Jayne Zahn; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Gebur; son, David; great-granddaughter, Gracelyn May; sisters, Jayce Swearson and Joan Black; brothers, James and Lyle Keyes; his parents.
Wally Fretland officiated.
Honorary bearers were all grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
