Gerald Halvorson

Gerald E. Halvorson, the son of Gerhard and Ella (Anseth) Halvorson was born on June 29, 1928 in Rugby, North Dakota. He died at the age of 87 years on Monday, November 23, 2015 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Gerald was raised on the family farm west and south of Rugby, where he attended rural school until completing his education at Rugby High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in February of 1951 and at that time was sent to Germany where he spent nine months. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He was united in marriage to Julianne Duchscher on July 19, 1954. The couple made their home in Rugby where he began driving truck for Pleasant Lake Grain Company. He then worked at the Elevator at Pleasant Lake from 1956-1990 and at that time he became a partner and owner until his retirement in 1990. In 1980, he bought a lake home at Lake Metigoshe and later built a retirement home which he loved sharing with his children and grandchildren. He and Julianne moved back to Rugby in 2004. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th Degree, the Clarence Larson American Legion, Rugby Eagles and Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby.

Gerald is survived by his wife; two sons, Larry (Pat) of Minot and Rob (Sherry) of Rugby; daughter, Debbie (Kent) Sussex of Hortonville, WI; grandchildren, Ryan (Kaysie) Sussex, Kimberly Sussex, Bryant, Chelsea and Kyle Halvorson, Dana and Danielle Halvorson, Craig (Tarah) Madsen and Shelly Madsen (Keller); great grandchildren, Callista and Lilia Keller, Aiden and Nolan Madsen, Rhett and Ada Sussex; brother, Malcolm of Minot; sister, Doris Mason of Citrus Springs, FL; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by sisters, Donna Olson and Dalys Harper; a brother, Orris and his parents.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial in the church cemetery. Father Tom Graner, Celebrant.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 27 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby with a Rosary and vigil prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. There will be no reviewal in the church.
