Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Rugby for Floreen Eleanor Barnes, 79, who died Friday, Nov. 6, at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.
Burial was in Union Cemetery, Towner.
Floreen was born Nov. 11, 1935 in Fargo, a daughter of Einar & Florence (Cowan) Sjorbotten. She was raised on the family farm near Horace, graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1953 and from NDSU in 1958. Following graduation she worked as the McLean County Extension Agent in Washburn. On Feb. 8, 1960, she married Virgil Barnes in Mandan. The couple moved to Crosby and Rugby before moving to Towner in 1967, where Virgil worked at the FSA office. She lived in Towner until she moved to the Haaland Estates in Rugby.
She is survived by sons, Scott, Bloomington, Minn.; Brent, East Meadow, N.Y.; Wade, Killdeer; two grandchildren; brother, E. Maynard Sjorbotten, Long Beach, Calif.; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; infant sister, Elaine Janis; her parents.
Pastor Nathan Steen officiated. Music was provided by Cheryl Holm, pianist and soloist.
Casketbearers were sons and grandsons: Scott, Brent, Wade, Logan and Layton Barnes.
