Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, at First Lutheran Church in Harvey for Harold Roy Alexander, 81, rural Esmond, who died Saturday, Sept. 16, near his home.
Burial was in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey.
Harold was born June 26, 1934 in the Lincoln Valley area, north of Denhoff, a son of Gottlieb & Mathilda (Opp) Alexander. He grew up in the Lincoln Valley area and attended rural schools. He farmed with his parents for several years and worked on road construction in Montana. On Dec. 29, 1961 he married Mary Lou Murray in McClusky. They and the family lived near Buffalo Lake (southern Pierce County) and ran a dairy operation until 2008. They continued to raise small grains and beef cattle. He also owned and operated “Harold’s Bait”, a wholesale fishing bait business, and supplied many area bait retailers. He was a licensed explosives consultant.
Harold served on the Esmond School Board and the Alexanter Township Board. He was a member of the Wells Eagles aerie in Harvey, and the Trinity Lutheran Church in Esmond – where he also served as a past council vice president.
He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey, Devils Lake; Steven, Minot; Lance, Esmond; six grandchildren; brother, Elmer Alexander, Minot; sisters, Violet Emineth and Lucine Liebelt, both of Bismarck; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
