Mary Elizabeth (Olson) Bohlin Congleton, 91, passed away peacefully August 19th at her residence in Anacortes, WA. She was born on November 23, 1923 on the family farm in Rugby, North Dakota to parents Mabel Bell (Bishop) and Clarence Henry Olson (Army WWI).
Mary was musical, playing trombone at Rugby High School and singing in the church choir. From childhood, she was skilled with hunting and guns as learned from her father. Mary enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, riding trail bikes, and R.V. traveling.
She worked at the Rugby newspaper, which led to her high proficiency in operating the linotype machines that she used in the Navy during WWII where she served as a WAVE. Mary, while raising their children, worked full time for the Seattle Times, and was instrumental in taking the paper into the computer age. She was a woman ahead of her time; so self sufficient and competitive from playing cribbage and scrabble and she excelled at both. Carl Bohlin and Mary were married while they were in the Navy, stationed at Norman Oklahoma during WWII. She later met and married Clark Congleton, while they worked for The Seattle Times.
Mary was preceded in death by both husbands, her brother, Art Olson (retired Air Force), and her stepson, William Bohlin.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Cat Bohlin of La Conner, WA, her daughter and son-in-law Barbara Bohlin and Bill Pfeffer, of Anacortes; grandchildren, Robert (Jodi) Bohlin of Flagstaff, AZ, Melissa (Norbert) Rojsza of Mercer Island, WA, Lisa Pfeffer and her fianc Cody Crichton of Anacortes; and great granddaughter Eden Rojsza. There are wonderful years of great memories for all. Mary was a bright, loving, caring wife, mother, and grandmother, smiling with humor even during her last days. Her loving family and friends will miss her dearly and she remains forever in our hearts and minds.
