Carolyn Julia Voeller, the daughter of Nick and Johanna (Bickler) Volk was born on March 19, 1924 in Rugby, North Dakota. She died at the age of 91 years on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.
Carolyn was raised in the home of her parents and was the oldest of the Volk’s four daughters. She attended The Sacred Heart Academy in Fargo and St. Scholastica College in Duluth, MN where she earned her BA in music. After teaching in Iowa, she was united in marriage to Frank I. Voeller. Returning to Rugby, the couple eventually purchased Carolyn’s family farm and raised their five children, Mark, Stephen, Carla Ann, Mary Kaye and John. Carolyn formed the first choir at Little Flower Catholic Church and eventually gained state-wide recognition for its excellence. She was active in Little Flower’s music program for over 60 years. She provided music for residents of the Haaland Home and was a soloist for many of the community’s weddings over the decades. Music and her offspring were her life. Later in life, Carolyn enjoyed Bridge and Pinochle, struggling to play with those who couldn’t count or bid correctly. She enjoyed both her international trips and traveling the country in their travel home. She wintered in Arizona and spent summers in Rugby.
