Brent M. Bartsch, 33, Tianjin, China, formerly of West Fargo, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 12, 2015.

Brent was born in Minot, ND the son of Donald and Linda (Brossart) Bartsch. He lived with his parents in Minot until the age of five. The family moved to West Fargo in 1987 where Brent received all of his education, graduating from West Fargo High School in 2000. He was active in the National Honor Society and Youth Court, played F-M soccer and was on the high school varsity team for three years and received the “hardest worker” award in his senior year. Brent kept busy with his academics, soccer, Boy Scouts (Life Rank) and was employed part-time at Hornbacher’s Village West and delivered the Fargo Forum for six years. A highlight of being a Boy Scout was attending the National Jamboree in Washington, DC.

Brent furthered his education at the University of North Dakota on a Presidential Scholarship. He was active in and was offered scholarships in several scholastic organizations including OMI Cron Delta Epsilon, Mortar Board and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. In 2002 and 2003, Brent was named to Who’s Who among students in American Universities and Colleges. While attending UND, Brent was a student senator for four years representing the Honors Program. He enjoyed traveling to monthly meetings throughout the state. He attended several economic institutes during his college years in New York, Alabama and California. He made many weekend trips home to continue work at Hornbacher’s. Brent received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration and Honors with a minor in Political Science and later a Master of Science in Applied Economics all from the University of North Dakota. While in Grand Forks, he was employed in various positions until he moved back to West Fargo in 2010, where he was employed as a supervisor at Hornbacher’s and also wrote for the North Dakota Council of Economic Advisors.

He taught Masters of Business Administration Economics at the University of Mary for several years. In February of 2012, Brent decided to go to China and chose Shenzhen to teach for an International Company, “English First” to adults. He remained there until September of 2012 when he began teaching high school in Shanghai. Brent moved to Tianjin in August 2014 and was presently teaching at Ying Hua International School in Wuqing. He was a very highly praised economics teacher.

While in Shenzhen, he met a wonderful young lady, Mia Ang. She has been our most help in this difficult time, taking care of details in China.

Brent’s passions included traveling throughout Asia, hiking in the mountains, physical fitness and watching series programs.

Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents: Joe & Clara Brossart; paternal grandparents: Albert and Barbara Bartsch all of Rugby, ND.

Brent is survived by his parents: Don & Linda Bartsch of West Fargo; a brother: Scott Bartsch of Fargo; significant other: Mia Ang in China; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Holy Cross Catholic Church at its new location: 2711 7th St. E., West Fargo, ND

Visitation: 5 to 7pm Wednesday followed by a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at the West Funeral Home, West Fargo.

Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery-North, Fargo, ND
