Victor Axtman, 86, Minot, formerly of Rugby, ND, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015, at Trinity Homes in Minot.
Victor Francis Axtman was born November 26, 1928, the son of Ned and Helen (Peters) Axtman, in rural Rugby, ND. He was raised on the family farm near Rugby and received his education at Brazil School #3.
On July 7, 1948, Victor was united in marriage to Marian E. Burckhard at St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Fulda, ND. Following their marriage, they made the Axtman homestead located 13 miles southwest of Rugby where they farmed and raised their two daughters, Jane and Charlotte.
In 1974, they moved to Rugby, ND. In retirement from farming, he worked for Rugby Manufacturing and Rugby Equipment. He loved driving and delivering farm machinery to the farmers at slow speeds to view the land and crops. He still recalls the addresses of places he delivered machinery to and some of the names of the farmers he knew.
In 2004, they moved to Brentmoor Assisted Living in Minot. Marian passed away February 1, 2012. Following his wife’s death, he moved to Edgewood Vista and most recently resided at Trinity Homes in Minot.
He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Minot. He was a former member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby and of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Balta, ND. Victor served on the Tuscaroa Township Voting Board, and was a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus of Rugby.
He loved playing cards, especially pinochole and whist, celebrating namesday, and was a practical jokester.
His loving family includes: daughters, Jane (James) Jundt, Minot, and Charlotte (Lester) Getzlaff, Williston, ND; grandchildren, Jim Jundt, Jr., Twyla (Bryan) Renner, Brent (Jennifer) Jundt, Angela (Jeff) Braaten, Glenn Getzlaff and Corey (Cindy) Getzlaff; great-grandchildren, Chauntel, Ethan, Anthony, Randy, Jenna, Lilly, Tyler, Kianna, Corbin, Colton, Corey, Carson, and Clay; sister, Virginia Koble, Rugby, ND; sister-in-law, Anne Burckhard, Minot; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 63 years, Marian; brother, Francis; sister, Lucille Burckhard; brothers-in-law, Fabian Burckhard and Casper Koble.
Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
Visitation: Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Monday at 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
