Funeral services will be held today at 1 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Cando for W.D. “Bill” Johnson, 99, Cando, who died Tuesday, March 17, at Towner County Medical Center in Cando.
Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando.
Bill was born Oct. 3, 1915 in Minneapolis, a son of George & Johanna (Restad) Johnson. He was raised and graduated from high school there. On Dec. 15, 1937 he married Marjorie Hansen in Cando. While working for First Bank Stock Corporation, they lived in Minneapolis, Cando, Grand Forks, Jamestown and Minot. They returned to Cando in 1967, where Bill became the president of Towner County State Bank. Upon retirement in 1979, they moved to Sedona, Ariz., and later moved back to Cando in 1983.
He is survived by a son, Kent, Ridgefield, Wash.; daughter, Meredith Schulz, Rugby; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers Roald, Gerald and Art.
Rev. Rick Craig will officiate. Music will be provided by Karen Braaten and Lynette Lybeck.
Casketbearers will be Nicholas Schulz, Erik Johnson, Jesse Boyd and Lucas Kindseth.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 21, 2015, graveside at Union Cemetery in Towner for David Clarke Fairbrother, 99, Towner, who died Friday, May 15, at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.
David was born Feb. 18, 1916 on the family farm northeast of Towner, a son of Ernest & Rose (Wagar) Fairbrother. He graduated from Towner High School and University of Southern California with a degree in accounting. On July 12, 1940 he married Vera McCorrbs in Phoenix. He then took over the farmily farm and additional land over the years, focusing on growing improved seed varieties. He also prepared tax returns and provided accounting services.
He was the leader of the Wagar Township-McHenry County organization.
He is survived by a son, Clarke, Santa Ana, Calif.; grandson, John and great-grandsons, Ethan and Logan, all of Santa Ana; nieces, Cindy Martin, Pat Fairbrother and Kay Sharpe; grandnephew Bruce Fairbrother, Towner; grandnieces, Brenda Sweeney, Beth McCrae, Laurel Kaae and Lynn Conell; niece-in-law, Virginia Hill Fairbrother and several great-grandnieces and nephews.
