Ivan Harry Strand, 59, Munds Park, AZ, formerly of Pleasant Lake, ND, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at his home of natural causes. The Funeral and Celebration of his life will be held 2:00PM Friday April 10, 2015 at the First Lutheran Church located at 202 4th St SE Rugby, ND 58368 with Pastor Michael Pretzer officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Knox, ND. Music will be provided by Elaine Hornaday.
Ivan Harry Strand was born on January 26, 1956. He was fortunate enough to be raised by his wonderful parents Elvern and Shirley Hageness of Pleasant Lake North Dakota, and his father Ivan Strand Sr, and his aunt Patricia Robbins of Knox, ND. Ivan attended school in Wolford, and Esmond, North Dakota where he graduated from High School in 1974. He played basketball for Wolford and Esmond Schools, he was known to many as BIG BIRD (because of his height) 6′ 8″ and Stein because of his unbelievable intelligence level. He farmed with his dad Elvern Hageness on a farm north of Sand Lake. In 1974 he went to Alaska and worked several years as a Plumber and Pipefitter. Ivan was a proud member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Association Local 375. Ivan specialized in biopharmaceutical design/build construction for over 35 years.
Ivan owned and operated 3D Pipe Designz for many years. He worked on such designs as City Scape in Los Vegas, several casinos in Arizona, a Federal Building and several hotels. Some of his other works included UMEC: 3D CAD designs for Intel Fab 12 300MM Conversion, TGEN Phoenix AZ, Intel Fab 32 new construction Ocotillo AZ, Diego, CA. Sheraton Hotel, Phoenix AZ. KSI: Biogen Idec/Genetec, base build Oceanside, CA., EMCOR/Hanson Mechanial, Harmon Hotel , City Center , LV.NV., WhitingTurner/ Delcard, Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover, Delaware. Riddleburger Brothers/ Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. Dorvin Leis Mechanical/ U of H Cancer Research Center, Oahu, HI, Murray Company/Baxter Pharmaceutical / LA8X, Glendale, CA, KSI Biopharmaceutical: Genetech retrofit, Oceanside CA. In 2001 he married the love of his life Kim Rollefson. They lived in a beautiful home in Munds Park, Arizona. His wife passed in 2009. They enjoyed traveling, many sports and activities around the world. Ivan would give the shirt off his back (and money too) to anyone in need. He never judged people, and was a wonderful husband, son, brother, and an uncle to many. He had a heart of gold and a smile that could not be beat.
He is survived by his mother Shirley Hageness of Pleasant Lake, his brother Patrick Hageness of Pleasant Lake, sister’s Kathy Strand Schmidt (Phillip) of Gilbert, Arizona, Bonnie Strand of Pleasant Lake, Elaine Strand Hornaday (Lee) of Minot, ND, Margaret Hageness of Devils Lake, ND, and Patricia Hageness of Wolford, ND.
He was preceded in death by both his fathers Elvern Hageness and Ivan Strand Sr, a brother Donald Strand, and his wife Kim Strand.
