Verna Eleanor (Vig) Larson, the daughter of Axel and Mary (Larson) Vig was born on June 9, 1926 in the rural Williams County, North Dakota home of her parents, one of seven children. She died at the age of 88 years on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Verna was raised in the home of her parents, baptized and confirmed in the Bonetraill, North Dakota Lutheran Church and received her education in the Bonetraill School. Following school, she worked as a waitress at a local caf in Grenora, North Dakota and did housekeeping for area families. At the age of 21, she moved with her parents and siblings to Pierce County, North Dakota. There she would meet her husband to be, Elmer Larson and the couple were united in marriage on August 10, 1951. Elmer and Verna made their home in Towner, North Dakota where Elmer was a mechanic. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Verna enjoyed membership at Zion Lutheran Church, Towner, listening to her musical family, was an avid gardener, especially flowers, and treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren. Due to Elmer’s declining health, the couple moved to the Haaland Estates, Rugby in 2005. Elmer died December 21, 2007. Verna continued to live at the Estates until last month, when she moved to the Care Center.

Survivors include one son, Vernon (Lila) and one daughter, Arlene (Dennis) Genre, all of Towner; six grandchildren, Tiffany Genre of Welch, Oklahoma, Mary Ann (Larson) Wahl and husband, Curtis of Minot, Cassidy (Shyane) Genre, Rex and Hank Larson and Connor Genre, all of Towner; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Caroline Arstein of Billings, Montana; two brothers, Merlin (Mabel) Vig and Lyle Vig, all of rural Rugby; a sisters-in-law, Betty Vig and Betty Larson of Rugby; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Clyde, Morris and Edward Vig; and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 23rd at the Zion Lutheran Church in Towner with spring burial in the Union Cemetery, Towner. Pastor Linda Wimmer and Mr. Wally Fretland, officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday in the Anderson Funeral Home, Towner and will continue for one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Monday.
