Keller

Anton R. “Tony” Keller, the son of Walter and Margaret (Tuchscherer) Keller was born on July 7, 1920 in Devils Lake, North Dakota. He died at the age of 94 years on Thursday, January 22, 2015 in his home on the farm in rural Wolford, North Dakota that he rented and owned for 61 years.

Tony was raised in the home of his parents in Devils Lake, Tunbridge, and Knox. He received his education at the local rural schools in the areas that the family lived. He helped on the family farm until he enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 6, 1942. He served his country well in World War II and was honorably discharged on February 23, 1946. He returned to the Knox area and became an active member of the American Legion and VFW. On July 8th, 1946 he was united in marriage to Katherine Voeller at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Knox. The couple started farming in the Knox area and had lived on the family farm since 1953 where they raised their seven children. Katherine died in December of 1987. Tony continued to live on the farm and farm the land with his son. He never really retired, as he still drove the tractor until he was 92 years old. Tony loved farming and even after he couldn’t drive the tractor anymore, he was continually driving his Gator around the fields checking the crops. He also mowed the lawn with the lawn tractor after it only had grown about of an inch! One of his greatest joys in his later years was for him to watch the grain come out of the combine grain spout. He enjoyed going to the casino to play his favorite dollar machine. He had many friends, loved to have a good time and lived life to his fullest.

Tony is survived by his children, Richard (Dianne) of Missoula, MT, Karen Mears of Grand Forks, Charlotte (Jim) Dockter of Cheyenne, WY, Bob (Viola) of Bismarck, Cindy Lemar of Bismarck and Raphael (Wanda) of Leeds; daughter-in-law, Vicki Swanson of Casper, WY; 24 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; brothers, Mike (Lorraine) of Clackamas, OR, Peter (Ruth) and Roy (Elizabeth) both of Belguim, WI; and John (Nancy) of Hudson, FL; several nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine; son, Roger; brothers, Dominic and Walter; six sisters, Mary Magdalene, Teresa, Margaret, Bernice, Kathryn and Christine; and his parents.
