Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2014 at Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette for Janet May Arstein, 82, Rolette, who died Thursday, Jan. 8 at home.
Burial will be in the spring at Willow Creek Lutheran Cemetery in Overly.
Janet was born May 5, 1932 in Rolette, a daughter of Peter & Nora (Iverson) Teigen. After graduating from Rolette High School, she attended Minot State Teacher’s College, where she received a one-year diploma. She then began teaching in a one-room school in South Valley Township, Rolette County. She moved onto teaching in Overly. She then became a music teacher and an elementary school principal. On Oct. 25, 1955 she married Alvin Arstein at Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette. In the mid-1980s she received a Masters of Education degree from Tri-College.
She was a member of Valle Lutheran Church, where she also served as choir director and Sunday School superintendent. She was also a 4-H leader, and was involved in many school activities.
She is survived by her husband; children, Diane Arstein, Rolette; Richard Arstein, Rolette; JoAnn Freeman, Neepawa, Manitoba, Canada; five grandchildren; brother, Ole Teigen, Cottage Grove, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Teigen; sisters, Eleanor Storm and Lorraine Shinn; granddaughter, Anna Noel Arstein.
Rev. Don Short officiated. Music was provided by Lavonne Ivey, organist, and the congregation.
Casketbearers were Jaya, Jonah and Siri Freeman and David and Emma Arstein.
