A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014 at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby for Marion Walters, 92, Devils Lake, formerly of Rugby, who died Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake.

Burial will be in the spring at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery, Fillmore.

Marion was born July 1, 1922 in Esmond, a daughter of John & Marion (Burgard) Piatz. She was raised on her parents’ farm near Fillmore. She later lived in Fargo. On Oct. 8, 1945 she married William “Bill” Walters. They lived in the Fillmore and Esmond area until they moved to Oberon. She worked at the Oberon School and Oberon Cafe. She later worked as a housekeeper at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake for 15 years, retiring in 1982. She moved to Rugby in 1982. Due to declining health, she moved to Devils Lake.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Ronald Walters, Oberon; Gwen Miller, Baker, Mont.; Mary Haatija, Sleepy Eye, Minn.; Dorothy Moen and Warren Walters, both of Devils Lake; 14 grandchildren; 33-great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Lund, Tioga; Lena Ganje, Velva; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sons, Donald, William and Jonathan; grandchildren, Jacob & Jennifer Carter and their father, Sam; Rhonda Walters and Zachary Moen; sister, Eva Piatz; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Lund and George Ganje.

Father Tom Graner was the celebrant. Music was provided by Glenda Mack, organist, and Samantha Richards, vocal leader/cantor.

Casketbearers were Andy, Jonathan and Evan Miller, Issac Moen, Dusti Walters and John McCanna.
