Richard West

Richard Charles West, the son of Charles and Rachel (McLaughlin) West was born in Portland, Oregon on March 15, 1946. He died at the age of 68 years on December 7, 2014 at the Trinity Medical Center in Minot, ND.

Richard grew up on the McLaughlin family dairy farm in Milwaukie, OR and graduated from Milwaukie Public High School. He continued his education at Multnomah School of the Bible, of which his grandfather West was a founder, and then went on to Portland State University. On May 28, 1983, Rich was united in marriage to Dellereice Isaacson of Barton, ND. They made their home in Portland where Rich worked for Landmark Ford for 12 years as an Assistant Service Manager. In July of 1996, Rich and Dell moved to Rugby, ND and he became employed with M.J. McGuire Co. as Assistant Parts Manager and then Parts Manager. He enjoyed his life in Rugby, including his job, co-workers and the many friends and community members that came into his life. He was always active in sports, including tennis, skiing, sailing, basketball and golf. He joined and was active in the Rugby Golf Club and looked forward to Tuesday men’s night. Rich served for 10 years as President of the Barton Meteors Club, working for the preservation of the Barton Park. He loved music, studied classical piano, played hymns and grew up on rock ‘n roll! He had many interest in his life and a love for travel and new adventures, which included crystal digging at “Dismal Swamp” in the Sawtooth Mountain range of Idaho, and going on trips to Italy and France. In actions and in deeds, Rich did his best to live his spiritual beliefs.

Rich is survived by his wife, Dellereice of Rugby; sisters, Marjorie Luce of Temperance, Michigan and Nancy Reagan of Cary, North Carolina; brother, Ken West of Bridgeport, Connecticut; an aunt and two uncles; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in Rugby, private spring burial in West Barton Cemetery, Barton. Pastor Mike Pretzer, officiating.

Family and friends may visit for one hour prior to the time of services on Friday at the church.
