Donnie McKay was born on January 14, 1983 in Bottineau, ND to John McKay and Linda Richter. The family moved to Warroad, MN where Donnie graduated from Warroad High School.

After high school, Donnie worked numerous jobs around the Warroad area. In 2007 he moved to Tioga, ND and worked on the oil rigs. Donnie worked for ARP Energy Services as a BOP tester. In August of 2008 Donnie married Michelle in Warroad, MN.

Donnie was a fan of anything with a motor, if it was fast and loud he loved it. He enjoyed customizing every machine that he worked on, and he did things his way no matter what. He also enjoyed golfing, shooting pool and fishing. Donnie loved being with his family and friends. Donnie was a Cancer survivor after a one year battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Even through his cancer treatments he was always in a good mood and had a great sense of humor. Donnie’s best friend was his new dog Hercules. Hercules would go everywhere with Donnie, even to the oil rigs.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Michelle; parents, John McKay, Linda Richter; siblings, Jesse McKay, Emery McKay, Haley Richter, Sara McKay, Kris McKay; In-laws, Becky Bieber, Michael Ramseier, Loretta Ramseier, Sara Ramseier; grandparents, Mary Elise McKay, Bill McKay, Duane Heidlebaugh; his dog, Hercules.

A Memorial Service for Donnie McKay of Tioga, ND formerly of Warroad, MN will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 4:30PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN.

Donnie McKay passed away on November 26, 2014 at the age of 31.
