Mary Ann Bachmeier, 76, a longtime Williston resident, passed away Friday morning, November 14, 2014, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.

Mary Ann Young was born January 30, 1938 at Harvey, ND, daughter of Frank and Mary Elizabeth (Poeckes) Young. She grew up and was educated in Selz, ND and later attended high school in Williston when the family moved in 1952.

Mary Ann was united in marriage to Nick Bachmeier of Rugby at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Williston on September 23, 1961. They lived in Williston, which became their lifelong home, raising two daughters, Yvette and Theresa.

In her younger years, Mary Ann worked at F. W. Woolworth’s, Mercy Hospital as a Candy Striper, and several years as a long-distance operator for NW Bell Telephone Company. She later spent over 30 years helping a number of parents by providing day care for their children.

Mary Ann was an active member of St. Ann’s Altar Band, Catholic Daughters of America, Academy of Friendship Moose Lodge #239, and Women of the Moose, where she was awarded with a lifetime membership in 2009. She enjoyed painting and creating items using Artex paint (now Tri-Chem), watching old movies, especially black and whites, and testing her skills with word puzzles. Most of all, she appreciated spending time with family, friends, and taking care of the “grand dogs”.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Nick, of 53 years; two daughters, Yvette Bachmeier of Fort Laramie, WY and Theresa (Allen) Nygaard of Williston, ND; grandson, Colby Nygaard of Williston; brother, Tim (Sandra) Young of Evergreen, CO; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; father, Frank in 1985 and mother, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” in 2005.
