Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church in Towner for Darlene Carolyle Block, 82, Rugby, formerly of Towner and Fargo, who died Thursday, Nov. 6, at Trinity Medical Center in Minot.

Burial was in Union Cemetery, Towner.

Darlene was born Jan. 7, 1932 in Barton, a daughter of Lawrence & Martha (Issacson) Johnson. In 1948, she and her parents moved to Willow City. She graduated from Willow City High School in 1950. On June 5, 1954 she married Marvin Block. For 10 years they lived on farm west of Willow City, and moved into Willow City in 1964. They moved to Towner in 1973. Due to declining health, she became a resident at an assisted care center in Fargo. Recently she moved to the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Towner.

She is survived by her husband, Towner; son, Mitchell, Storm Lake, Iowa; daughter, Deborah Hellman, Fargo; three grandchildren; sisters, Marlys Richard, Bottineau; Lorraine Grondahl, Minot; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, JoAnn Grondahl and Ardith Fahrnkopf.

Pastor Daryl Rothchild officiated. Music was provided by Dianne Montonye, organist.

Casketbearers were Kevin, Jerome and Darin Grondahl and Bill, Jerry and Jason Block.
