Lyle James Marchus passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo with his family by his side.
Lyle was born on July 8, 1932 to Gifford and Olive (Hanson) Marchus in Rugby, ND. He grew up in that area and graduated from Knox High School in 1949. Lyle J. Marchus and O’Della A. Robinson were married at Leeds Evangelical Lutheran Church, Leeds, ND on August 22, 1954. Lyle and O’Della lived in the country outside of Wolford, ND where they farmed and drove school bus. They later bought Larson Brothers Gas Station and Repair Shop in Leeds, ND. They owned and operated that until Lyle joined the Highway Patrol in the fall of 1965 when his family moved to Fargo. He worked for the Highway Patrol from 1966-1988 until his retirement.
After retiring, he continued to work on cars.
He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and was a licensed pilot. He taught himself how to play the violin. Lyle loved working on cars, running marathons, playing cards with his friends and spending time with his family.
Lyle is survived by his wife, O’Della, at home; his children, David Marchus, West Fargo, Debby Marchus, Moorhead, MN, Diane (Arvine) Benedict, Fargo and Denise Marchus, Fargo; 5 grandchildren, Erica Zacker, Dillon Marchus, Christy Haugen, Kathy Collins, and Alex Marchus; 3 great-grandchildren, Preston Ramirez, Eric Collins and Kyrie Haugen; siblings, Larry (Mona) Bottineau, ND, Leland, Rugby, ND, Lois Marchus, Rugby, ND and Loren (Susan) Marchus, Wolford, ND.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lloyd.
Visitation: 5-7:00 P.M. Friday, October 17, 2014 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
Funeral Service: 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo with visitation starting at 12:00 P.M.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
