Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rugby for Margaret Rothchild, 95, Rugby, who died Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.
Burial was in Persilla Watts Cemetery.
Margaret was born Sept. 16, 1919 in Russell, a daughter of John & Ida (Rindlisbacher) Zurcher. She was raised on her father’s homestead in Pratt township, McHenry County. She graduated from Minot High School in 1936. She then attended a business college in Minot and did office work in North Dakota for several years. During WWII she moved to Portland, Ore., where she held several jobs, including working for a government office. On January 1, 1948 she married Dwight Rothchild. In 1949 they purchased the bakery in Rugby, which they ran for 25 years.
She was active in the PTA and girls 4-H club, which she served as a leader. She was also a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of its LWML.
She is survived by children, Melinda Jelsing, Rugby; Rev. Dean Rothchild, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; David Rothchild, Minot; Rev. Daryl Rothchild, Newburg; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Leona Bethke, Grand Forks; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Elmer, John H., Paul, Arthur; sisters, Ida Myers, Anna Randall, Esther Luscher; grandson, Aaron Rothchild; son-in-law, Selmer Jelsing.
Rev. Joshua Reimche officiated. Music was provided by Dianne Montonye, organist.
Casketbearers were Ryan Fowler, Kevin Lashman, Joe Milbach, Eric Steltzer and John and Matthew Rothchild. Honorary bearers were Margaret’s nieces and nephews.
