Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014 at Weymouth Funeral Home in Newport News, Va., for Francis Xavier Scheett, 92, Newport News, who died Thursday, Aug. 14.

Burial, with military honors, was in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, Va.

Francis was born June 22, 1922 in Orrin, a son of Edmond & Rosella (Sanders) Scheett. He was a combat medic during WWII, serving in General Patton’s 3rd Army. He retired from the Army after serving for 22 years. He worked as head of the purchasing department for Riverside Regional Medical Center until 1987.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and the Civilian Conservation Corps.

He is survived by children, Michael, Newport News, Va.; Melinda Sue Smith, Tarpon Springs, Fla.; John Scheett, Newport News, Va.; Mark, Hampton, Va.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Ed, Waterford, Mich; Gabe, West Fargo; Tony, Grand Forks; sisters, Christina Schmidt, Plentywood, Mont.; Anna Zahradka, West Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Blanche; grandson, Andrew Thomas Scheet; brothers, Conrad, Peter and Simon; sister, Barbara Wilhelmi.
