Memorial services were held Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Niewoehner Funeral Home in Rugby for Thomas “Tom” Edward Roark, 61, Rugby, who died Thursday, July 10 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.
Tom was born September 22, 1952 in Wichita, Kan., a son of Farrel & Edna Mae (Long) Roark. His family moved to Merced, Calif., at an early age. He graduated from Merced High School in 1971, and continued his education at Merced Junior College – where he earned Associate’s degrees in law science and criminal justice. On October 9, 1977 he married Susan Cochran in Merced. He worked for 10 years as a deputy sheriff in Merced County and another 10 for the Merced County Marshall Department. For five years he operated Roark’s Process Service. He retired from law enforcement in 1996. In 2006 he moved to Rugby.
He was active in the Methodist men’s and youth groups, Kiwanis Club, Merced County Sheriff and Marshall Union, and the Rugby Eagles Aerie.
He is survived by his wife, Rugby; daughter, Shannon Millican, Bottineau; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James; and his parents.
Rev. Nathan Steen officiated. Music was provided by Dianne Montonye, organist, Steen and Arlene Johnson, guitar and violin.
