Funeral services were held Monday, July 14, 2014, at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby for Clifford Olie Ostenson, 73, Rugby, who died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.
Clifford was born October 15, 1940 in Rolla, a son of Albin & Rose (Lambert) Ostenson. He attended Ox Creek School #4 in rural Rolette and completed his education at Rolette High School. On August 26, 1964 he was inducted in the U.S. Army. He served in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on August 25, 1970 and returned to Rugby. On December 17, 1971 he married Joanne Lindman at Little Flower Catholic Church. He worked for Fossum’s and for Deplazes Redi-mix until 2004. He lived at the Heart of America Care center for six years before moving to the Haaland Home, where he lived for the past three years.
He is survived by his daughters, Crystal Wangler, Rugby; Dawn Ostenson, Grand Forks; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Violet Kuntz, Towner; Darlene Schmidt, Lincoln; Carol DeVries, Minot; Eunice Ostenson and Lois Kuhn, both of Jamestown; brother, Allen Ostenson, Jamestown; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; infant sister, Mary; and a nephew, Steven Ostenson.
Father Tom Graner officiated. Music was provided by Angie Deplazes, organist, and Robert Graber, vocal leader. Military honors were accorded by the Clarence Larson American Legion Post #23 Honor & Color Guard of Rugby and the N.D. Military Funeral Honors Detail.
Casketbearers were Tyler, Chase, Brandon and Rylie Wangler, Trevor Ostenson and Jeff Kuntz. Honorary bearers were Steve Boucher, Jim Wentz and John Voeller.
