Funeral services were held Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby for Michael Fritel, 93, Rugby, who died Monday, June 2, at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.
Burial was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Orrin.
Michael was born January 24, 1921 near Orrin, a son of Frank & Anastasia (Fronk) Fritel. After his schooling, he made his home in Esmond with his sister and brother-in-law, Bennie & Elizabeth Marquart. He worked for area farmers and the Jensen Tree Farm for many years. He also cared for many Esmond residents’ lawns, and for a long time he helped care for the St. Boniface and Trinity Lutheran Cemeteries. In 2004 he moved to the Maddock Memorial Home, and in 2011 he entered the Heart of America Long Term Care Center in Rugby.
He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond, St. William’s Catholic Church in Maddock, Golden Age Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles aerie in Harvey.
He is survived by two brothers, Conrad, Stanley; Nick, Rugby; sister, Phyllis Salwey, Williston; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Rudy and Steve; sisters, Elizabeth Marquart, Magdalena Ripplinger, Catherine Rohrer and Ann Olderbak.
Monsignor Brian Donahue was the celebrant. Music was provided by Robert Graber and Glenda Mack, organist.
Pallbearers were Bob, Joe, Kevin, Larry, Leon, Steve and Will Fritel and Pat Salwey.
