Margaret Bischoff

Jun 6, 2014

Margaret Lindeman Bischoff, the daughter of Andrew and Barbara (Jundt) Lindeman was born in the Fulda, North Dakota home of her parents on October 21, 1921. She died at the age of 92 years on Saturday, May 31, 2014 surrounded by her family at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva, North Dakota.

Margaret started her life in the home of her parents in Fulda and at the age of 2 years, her father died. Later, her mother married Joe B. Schmaltz and the family moved to rural Bergen, North Dakota where she completed her education in the Bergen School. On July 12, 1943, she was united in marriage to Barney J. Bischoff at St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Fulda. Following their marriage, the couple made their home, farmed and raised their family of 13 children on the Bischoff family farm in Jefferson Township, Pierce County. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and a devout Catholic, Margaret loved the life on the farm, was a wonderful cook, baker, seamstress, gardener and most of all, a devoted Mother. She enjoyed canning, embroidery, quilting, playing bingo, being a gracious hostess to family, friends and even strangers. No one ever left her home hungry, day or night. Her culinary specialties were breads, German potato salad, apple bars and kuchen. One of her favorite hobbies was photography, always trying to capture the memories and pass them on to the next generation. She always remembered family and friends with a birthday or anniversary card or gifta characteristic that will be greatly missed.

In 1975, Margaret and Barney retired from the active farm life and in 1982 they purchased a home in Rugby. She was a former member of St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Fulda, where she taught CCD classes, and the Town & Country Homemakers, a current member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Rugby Eagles Auxiliary where she had served as a trustee and was named Mrs. Eagle in 2006, and lifetime member of the VFW auxiliary. Margaret enjoyed volunteer work, whether it was civic or church and was active in the Rugby Senior’s Center and especially enjoyed Wednesdays, when they played cards and bingo. In November of 2011, Margaret moved to the Haaland Estates Assisted Living and in January of 2013, she moved to the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.
