Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Towner for Miva Best, 98, Minot, formerly of the Towner-Bantry area, who died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Trinity Medical Center in Minot.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
Miva was born October 3, 1915 in Britton, S.D., a daughter of Warnie & Ethel (Philbrook) Cargo. She was raised in the home of her parents, and started working for various farms and ranches at age 12. She graduated from high school in Bantry. On November 21, 1938 she married William “Roy” Best in Towner. In 1944 they bought Roy’s parents’ ranch, where they raised Black Angus cattle and horses. She continued to live at the ranch until 1998, when she moved to Minot.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women’s Association, the ND Cattle Women, the ND Stockman’s Association, the National Cattlemen’s Association, the Republican Party, the ND Farm Bureau and the Souris River Racing Association.
Miva is survived by her children, Renee Best-Officer, Minot; Becky Field, Minot and Towner; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Fisher, Minot; son-in-law, Lloyd Lester, Fairview, Mont., many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Charleen Lester; son-in-law, Mike Officer; brother, Clyde Cargo; sisters, Gertrude Naslund and Betty Gibbs.
Rev. Don Andrews will officiate. Music will be provided by Elaine Hendrickson, organist.
Casketbearers will be Shane Lester, Troy Stark, Roger Best, Galen Best, Dennis Cargo and Rod Cargo.
