Funeral services were held Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Niewoehner Funeral Home in Rugby for Walter Allen Stutrud, 89, Rugby, who died Sunday, April 13, at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.
Burial will be later in the spring at Persilla Watts Cemetery in Rugby.
Walter was born March 1, 1925 in Tunbridge, a son of Otto & Inga (Westgard) Stutrud. He grew up there, attending school at Henrickson #1 Grade School. In 1943 he graduated from Rugby High School. He moved to the Leeds area in 1968 and farmed. He also drove buses for the Rugby school district. On Novemeber 28, 1964 he married Myrtle Agnes Nelson in Grand Forks. He lived in the Haaland Home for a year before entering the Long Term Care unit at the Heart of America Medical Center.
He was a member of the Tunbridge Free Lutheran Church, where he served as secretary, treasurer and trustee for many years.
He is survived by his sister, Amy Anderson, Leeds, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; brothers, Lynn, Oliver and Theodore.
Rev. David Fisher officiated. Music was provided by the Fisher family and Lisa Anderson, organist. Pallbearers were Duane Anderson, Harland Berg, Jordan Fisher, Bryan Leapaldt, Ed Mickelson and Larry Swingen.
