Carole Jean Simonson, 80, Rugby, died peacefully on March 7, 2014 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.
Carole was born to Arnold Julius and Stella Inez (Brenno) Noem on July 9, 1933 in Rugby. She was raised in the Fillmore area and graduated from Fillmore High School in 1951. She married Richard Bruce Simonson in Fillmore on June 9, 1951. She lived in Fillmore while her husband was in the US Army in Korea. During this time she worked as a switchboard operator at the Bell Telephone Company in Rugby. After Richard returned from Korea, they operated a grocery store in Fillmore for several years. They moved to Rugby in 1968 and were involved in several businesses through the years, namely, Rugby Dairy Queen, R & S Motors, Hub Service Station, and S & S Laundry. Carole was a kind, caring person and liked to serve people and did so lastly, at age 78, as a clerk in the Only Deals store in Rugby. In later years, she and Richard had a hobby farm near Rugby where she had numerous exotic animals, with her pride and joy being her donkeys. Many people will remember the delicious lefsa she made and gave to her friends and family, whom she loved dearly. She also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings play football.
She was a long time member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, congregational treasurer, and a member of the Women’s Ministries.
She is survived by her husband, Richard and their children: Cheryl and her husband Joe Meyer – Vadnais Heights, Minnesota; Kathy and her husband Bryon Diebold – Willow City; Renae and her husband Sam Brossart – Rugby, Brenda Simonson and Erik – Minot; and Mark Simonson Rugby. She also leaves a sister, Joyce Dierker Grand Forks and 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Dennis Noem, Duane and Wayne Noem as infants and a sister, Eris Hoffner.
Funeral Services will be held at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Rugby on March 11, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Nathan Steen officiating. Marlene Fred will be the pianist and Dennis Fred, Angel Hoffert and Terri Jacobson will provide vocal music.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 3-9 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM. and an hour before the service at the church. The casketbearers will be Erik Bjork, Sam Brossart, Dale Fred, Ernest Gingerich, Joe Meyer, and Orrin Nelson.
