Rose Hagel, 94, West Fargo, formerly of Rugby, North Dakota, died peacefully on February 13, 2014 at the Sheyenne Crossing Home in West Fargo, North Dakota surrounded by her family.
Rose was born to Sebastian and Barbara Young Burkhartsmeier on May 25, 1919 in Wellsburg, North Dakota. She was raised in the Harvey area and graduated from Harvey High School in 1937. She married Frank Hagel in Franklin Park, Illinois on October 24, 1942. After returning to North Dakota, they farmed in the Balta area before moving to Rugby, where they raised their family. She will be remembered for her many years of service at Lien’s Jewelry in Rugby. She also did volunteer work at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby. She enjoyed walking, baking, and caring for her children and grandchildren.
She was a faithful member of the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby.
She is survived by her children: Larry and his wife Vicki Spokane, Washington; JoAnn and her husband Tony Heinbaugh Fargo; Robert and his wife Ruth Fargo; Barbara and her husband Thomas Rooney Chagrin Falls, Ohio; Mary and her husband Steve Boyd Moorhead, Minnesota; Ellen and her husband David Aamot West Fargo, North Dakota; Francine and her husband Thomas Leier Minot; and Franklin.
She also leaves grandchildren: Scott, Jacklyn, Patrick, Cassie, Monika, Amanda, Michele, Aubrey, Jacob, Aaron, Kelsey, Cara, Tory, Anne, Megan, Natalie, Blake, Andrew, and Samantha in addition to her great-grandchildren: Bailey, Stetson, Jack, Amelia, and Harrison. She also leaves her sister, Evelyn McGill Franklin Park, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank on September 18, 2001, and brothers: Tony, Sebastian, Martin, Al, Sylvester, and Donald and a sister, Elizabeth DesBrisay.
A family mass of celebration was held on February 15, 2014 in West Fargo. A graveside service will be held at the Little Flower Catholic Cemetery in Rugby in the spring.
