Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Willow City for Donald Owen Koehmstedt, formerly of Overly, who died Friday, Jan. 31 at the Countryside Adult Care Home in Gresham, Ore.
Donald was born on Feb. 21, 1926 in Overly, a son of Leo & Leda Koehmstedt. He graduated from Overly High School in 1943. He served during WWII in the US Army 71st Infantry Division, 3rd Army from 1944 to 1946. Following his discharge, he attended UND and received a degree in electrical engineering. He also started flying in 1946, becoming an accomplished pilot. He returned to Overly to farm with his brother until 1990, and later with his nephews until 2011.
He is survived by a sister, Patricia Cox, Overly; niece, Kristi Cox, Portland, Ore.; nephews, Patrick Cox, Torrance, Calif.; Karl Koehmstedt, Rugby; two great-nieces and a great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Kolar; brothers Thomas and Lloyd Koehmstedt.
