A mass of Christian burial will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Towner for Mary A. Johnson, 96, Minot, who died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 at Trinity Homes in Minot.
Burial will be in the spring in the church cemetery.
Mary was born April 3, 1917 in Copperdahl Township, McHenry County, a daughter of Andrew & Lagetta (Neigel) Miller. She was raised on the family farm, and received her education at the Copperdahl Hill School, south of Towner. After completing her education, she worked as a nurses’ aide at a Minot hospital. On Sept. 28, 1941 she married Leon Johnson in Sheridan, Wyo. For four-and-a-half years, the couple lived in Oklahoma, Wyoming, Washington and California, before returning to the Towner area to raise a family. She worked for a time at the Towner Hotel, and as a nurses’ aide at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby. In 2004 she moved to Trinity Homes.
She was a member of the Homemakers Club in Towner, St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church and Christian Mothers, and the VFW Auxiliary, which she served as president of for four years.
She is survived by her sons, Leonard, Granville; Charles, Federal Way, Wash.; Alton, Burlington; daughters, Charlene Bergstad, Minot; Linda Rosencrans, Towner; Mary Helen Blada, Newburg; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Peter Miller, Towner; Bill Miller, Rugby; sister, Catherine DiMeo, Olympia, Wash.; sister-in-law, Florence Johnson, Coeur D’Alene, Idaho; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Carlton; brothers, Anton and Alfan Miller; sisters, Angie Kuhnhenn, Monica Hooker, Elizabeth Hanretty, Agnes Klemisch and Sister Annella Miller.
Casketbearers were her nephews: Richard Miller, Ralph Miller, Ralph Kuhnnenn, Mark Kuhnhenn, Kenny Hooker and Jim
