Funeral services with burial will be held at a later date in Persilla Watts Cemetery in Rugby for Howard Stanley Dressen, 90, Leeds, who died Thursday, January 16, 2014 in a Rugby hospital.
Howard was born Nov. 9, 1923 on the family farm south of Tunbridge to Herman & Julia Mathilda (Thue) Dressen. After attending country school through 8th grade, Howard farmed. He also worked as a butcher, in construction, as a janitor at the Churchs Ferry Public School, and for the Great Northern Railroad. On Nov. 9, 1943 he married Gladys Galvin in Rugby. They lived on Howard’s farm until the spring of 1952, when they moved to a farm west of Aberdeen, S.D. That fall they moved to a farm near Churchs Ferry. Howard remained on the farm until spring 2011, when the Devils Lake waters forced him to move to Leeds. In October 2013 he became a resident of the Maddock Memorial Home.
He is survived by his children: Floyd Dressen, Minnewaukan; Linda Walters, Oberon; Nelorie Brandt, Edina, Minn.; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Audrey Dressen, Devils Lake; brother-in-law, Melvin Pederson, Minot; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son, Erick; son-in-law, Leon “Lee” Michael Smith; great-grandson, Samuel Dressen; a brother, James; five sisters and four brothers-in-law: Margaret & Dugal Christenson. Evangeline & Floyd
