Kathryn Duchscherer

A mass of Christian burial was held Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Carrington for Kathryn Duchscherer, 91, Carrington, formerly of Minnewaukan, who died Saturday, Nov. 9 at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington.

Burial was at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Minneuwaukan.

Kathryn was born September 8, 1922 on the family farm south of Orrin, a daughter of Carl & Paulina (Schmaltz) Buckmeier. She attended school through 8th grade at the View District #5 country school. On October 28, 1940 she married Paul Duchscherer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Orrin. They farmed in the Orrin, Silva and Knox areas before moving to a farm north of Minnewaukan. They moved into Minnewaukan in 1955. She worked at the Benson County ASCS Office, and then at the Benson County Treasurers Office as Deputy Treasurer. She and her husband also operated the Tastee Freeze in Minnewaukan from 1965 to 1970. In the fall of 2011 she moved to Carrington, and recently was a resident at Golden Acres Manor.

She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church and Altar Society in Minnewaukan, until its closure; the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Devils Lake; the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Minnewaukan Senior Citizens.

Kathryn is survived by children, Elsie Wentz, Lynnwood, Wash.; Carl Duchscherer, Lawton; Monica Neis, Carrington; Mary Duchscherer, Fargo; Pauline Huffman, Andover, Minn.; Karen Haugen, Devils Lake; Dale Duchscherer, Aneta; 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; brother, George Buckmeier, Tawas, Mich.; sisters, Mary Baresh, Seattle, Wash.; Pauline O’Brien, Grand Rapids, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Katie Olson, Harvey; Hilda Buckmeier, Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Bill; grandsons, Brett Paul Duchscherer and Brian Duchscherer; great-grandson, Kyle Wentz; son-in-law, Jerome Wentz; brothers, Carl, Stonas, Mike, Ned and John Buckmeier; and sisters, Josephine Lemar and Anna Pfeifer.

Father Charles Leute was the celebrant. Music was provided by Ron Bromely, soloist, and Jennifer Hoornaert, pianist.

Casketbearers were Leanne Spooner, Deanne Landsverk, Kristi Buseman, Jennifer Beto, Sarah Score and Jill Duchscherer. Honorary bearers were Kevin Wentz, Kerry Wentz, Kraig Wentz, Kristin Wentz, Dan Duchscherer, John Duchscherer, Keith Neis, Kelly Neis, Brad Neis, Mike Neis, Erik Huffman, David Huffman, Jeffrey Haugen and Justin Haugen.
