Romanus Krenzel

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Anamoose for Romanus Krenzel, 72, Norwich, formerly of Orrin, who died Friday, Oct. 4 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis.

Burial was at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Orrin.

Romanus was born on Dec. 5, 1940 near Orrin, a son of Otto & Catherine (Schneider) Krenzel. He grew up near and attended school in Orrin, and he graduated from Anamoose High School in 1960. He joined the army on April 15, 1964 and was honorably discharged on April 4, 1966. He returned to North Dakota and was a laborer on construction sites. He joined the Local 563 labor union and worked on air bases and also at missile sites in the Minot, Nekoma and Grand Forks areas. He also worked on pipeline construction projects in North Dakota and Minnesota and numerous power plant sites in North Dakota. In 1986 he moved to a farm near Norwich, where he spent the remainder of his life.

He was a member of the St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Minot and the local 563 labor union.

He is survived by his brothers, Joseph of Harvey, Tony of Grand Forks, Rudolph of Berghiilem, Germany and Leo of Orrin; sister, Agnes Krenzel of Orrin; sister-in-law Karen Krenzel of Harvey, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Hugo, Otto and Pius.
