Lilly Olsen

Lilly Olivia Olsen died Tuesday morning in Butte, Montana. She was born May 15, 1932 in Barton, North Dakota to Ole and Beret “Marie” (Roksvaag) Fosness. She attended schools in Barton and graduated from Barton High in 1950. As a young teenager she worked on area farms as a “hired girl” who helped with cooking, cleaning and childcare. After graduation she attended Minot State Teachers College and taught at rural Banner School for one year and then one year at a rural school by Knox, North Dakota.

Lilly married Anton “Tony” Olsen in 1951 and lived in Washington and North Dakota before settling in Butte in 1967. Lilly worked at Warms Springs State Hospital as a psychiatric aid for 8 years and the as housekeeping supervisor at Butte Park Royal for 21 years. She also worked at Butte Super 8 Motel part time.

Lilly was a fun loving person who enjoyed walking, crafts, crocheting and sewing. She enjoyed playing keno and occasional trips to Nevada to play the slots. She enjoyed crystal digging and enjoyed line dancing with the Fine Line Dance Company for 20 years. She also participated in the Blooms Day walk/run in Spokane for 14 years with her sister, Gladys.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony who passed away in 1970, her brothers, Harold, Peter and Ole and her sister, Gladys. Survivors include her children, Dinah K. McLeod, Dennis J. (Donna) Olsen, Janell L. Wilson and Darrin W. Olsen, grandchildren: Danyell, Nick, Deanna, Stephanee, Kortnee, Shianne and Riley, great-grandchildren: Kassandra, Kodi, Kaitlyn, Olaf, Jaisann and Colby, great-great-grandchildren, Mason and Emma who will be born August 26, 2013. Also surviving are her brothers and sister-in-law, Norman and Elaine Fosness and Einar Fosness and sisters, Virginia, Dorothy, Mae and Elsie.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 6th at 11 a.m. in the Barton Lutheran Church with burial in the West Barton Cemetery, Pastor Rich Budd officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby and will continue for one hour prior to the time of services on Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Highlands Hospice or the Barton Lutheran Church.
