Alma R. Lowe, 94, of Hazel Green, WI passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, IA. Services will be at 11am on Thursday, July 25th at Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cuba City, WI; with Pastor Calvin Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cuba City, WI. Friends may call on Wednesday, July 24th from 5pm-8pm at the Haudenshield Funeral Home& Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI and on Thursday from 10am until the time of services at the funeral home. Alma was born on May 1, 1919 to Martin & Petra (Westgard) Stutrud on the family farm in Pierce County, North Dakota. She grew up in her family’s home and went to a county school to 8th grade and graduated from Rugby High School in 1938. She continued her education at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby, where she became a registered nurse in 1941. She nursed in California for 9 years, and later returned to North Dakota and worked at the Carrington Hospital for a year. After her father had a stroke and developed diabetes, Alma went home to take care of him. After her father’s death she worked at the Good Samaritan Hospital for several years and then moved to Wisconsin in Sept. 1963. She was employed at the Hazel Green Hospital & Clinic until her retirement in May 1985. On September 14, 1942 she married Nilus A. Lowe at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Reno, NV. She was a member of the Good Samaritan Alumni Association in Rugby, ND, Grace Lutheran Church in East Dubuque, IL until it closed in 2006. Alma enjoyed her Facebook page, Wheel of Fortune, and time spent with her friends and family, especially her great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Alma is survived by her 2 sons: Nilus (Fern) Lowe of Hazel Green, WI and Paul (Sharon) Lowe of Dubuque, IA; 7 grandchildren: Penny (Randy) Taylor of Milwaukee, WI, Ted (Tammy) Lowe of Bellevue, IA, Annette (Steve) Yeager, Jennifer Hoyer, Michelle (Tony) Zurcher, Jonathan Lowe and Brian Lowe all of Dubuque, IA; 11 great grandchildren: 1 brother: Melvin (Verone) Stutrud of Rugby, ND; 2 sisters: Helen Kuhnert and Elsie Anderson both of Rugby, ND; along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Nilus (Aug.1993), and 3 brothers: Earl, Raymond and Obert. In lieu of flowers an Alma R. Lowe Memorial Fund has been established.
